Physically Realistic Morphing

چکیده
This paper describes an algorithm for automatically adapting existing animated behaviors to new actors with diierent physical characteristics. When simulation is used for animation, this is a diicult problem because a control system that is tuned for one actor will not work on an actor with diierent limb lengths, masses, or moments of inertia. The algorithm presented here adapts the control system to a new actor in two stages. First, the control system parameters are scaled based on the size and moment of inertia of the dynamic models for the new and the old actors. Then a subset of the parameters is ne-tuned using a search process based on simulated annealing. To demonstrate the eeectiveness of this approach, we animate the running motion of a woman and child by modifying the control system for a running man. In addition to adapting a control system for a new model, this approach can also be used to adapt the control system in an on-line fashion to produce a physically realistic metamorphosis from the old model to the new model while the mor-phing model is performing the behavior. We evaluate the results of this approach by comparing the motion of the simulated child and woman with that of actual humans and data published in the literature.

Physically based morphing of point-sampled surfaces
This paper presents an innovative method for naturally and smoothly morphing point-sampled surfaces via dynamic meshless simulation on point-sampled surfaces. While most existing literature on shape morphing emphasizes the issue of finding a good correspondence map between two object representations, this research primarily investigates the challenging problem of how to find a smooth, physicall...
متن کاملPhysically-Based Combinations of Views: Representing Rigid and Nonrigid Motion
Nonrigid motion can be described as morphing or blending between extremal shapes, e.g., heart motion can be described as transitioning between the systole and diastole states. Using physically-based modeling techniques, shape similarity can be measured in terms of forces and strain. This provides a physically-based coordinate system inwhichmotion is characterized in terms of physical similarity...
متن کاملRealistic Real-time Facial Expressions Animation via 3D Morphing Target
Realistic facial animation can enhance the immersion characteristic of 3D games. This paper proposes a 3D morphing target method based on GPU for real-time animation of facial expressions. We employ texture mapping to obtain a realistic appearance, and design a fast morphing process to achieve a relatively high FPS by modifying the morph data structure and implementing the morphing algorithm in...
متن کاملA Data-Driven Approach to Realistic Shape Morphing
Morphing between 3D objects is a fundamental technique in computer graphics. Traditional methods of shape morphing focus on establishing meaningful correspondences and finding smooth interpolation between shapes. Such methods however only take geometric information as input and thus cannot in general avoid producing unnatural interpolation, in particular for large-scale deformations. This paper...
متن کاملGenerating Visemes for Realistic Animation
Efficient, realistic face animation is still a challenge. A system is proposed that yields realistic visemes for speech animation. This paper discusses the extraction of these visemes. It starts from real 3D face dynamics, observed at frame rate for thousands of points on the faces of speaking actors. A generic 3D mesh is fitted to the data throughout 3D time sequences. This is based on a combi...
